Aircraft Carrier Mfs2020 - The model of the carrier itself is pretty cool for all of 5 bucks. It did have a fully modeled interior down to internal hangars filled with aircraft. That's all been ripped out to save polygons but the island still has a bit left inside for you to relax in after a tiring afternoon bombing Cowes, Ryde and Ventnor back to the stone age.
Other than that revelation I have no idea why I put it there. I should've gone for somewhere rather more torrid and international but it didn't occur to me until it was too late. There are at least plenty of places nearby to fly from.

This carrier has been parked just off the Isle of Wight in the UK and is starred. My sources tell me that Joe Biden has been groomed since birth to totally subjugate the Isle of Wight at the behest of the Thule Society so this could turn out to be a frighteningly prescient mod.
An optical landing system has been implemented into the software which will appear when approaching the carrier. The FLOS provides vertical guidance in reference to the glidepath that the aircraft is on. If the FLOS "ball" is above the two bright green datum lines, the aircraft is above the flight path.
Similarly if the "ball" is below the green datum lines, the aircraft is below the glidepath. You can enable and disable FLOS from the HDS software window. You can drag the FLOS around on your screen and HDS will remember its position for the next approach.
Now all the deck is usable I've reduced the overall length of the ship to around 470 meters from over 600. That may be too big for some still, but you can now try the other parts of the deck too.
The Standard Edition of the game won't gate you from exploring what each class of plane has to offer. Upgrading to either deluxe edition of the simulator will expand your options for flight, but it may be hard to tell if those purchases will make a difference to you.
After you master the basics and some advanced flight techniques, you might have a better idea of whether or not you want to grow your fleet of aircraft. Your options for planes to fly in Microsoft Flight Simulator are limited to four types of aircraft with different vehicles to choose from depending on which version of the game you have.
With three editions of the game available for purchase, it can be difficult to keep track of which planes belong in which version. Think I'm going to class this as a 'stunt' location as there are some, erm, compromises.
There are apparently carrier mentions in the developer kit documentation but certainly no sign of them in reality so sadly there are no steam catapults, just your own boring old engines to rely on. This is nothing more than a lump of terraformed and dried out sea with a model thrown on top.
V 1.1 I've figured out how to make the whole deck solid. Hooray. The terraforming still won't cooperate fully so the apron surrounding the runway is weirdly jagged no matter what I try and there might be the odd bulge but the terrain overspill is largely gone.
So the only stationary aircraft carrier I know about is the USS Midway in San Diego, which is modeled in the game. However when trying to land on it, the game determines I have crashed into the water on touchdown.
Also since it's a museum and not a functional aircraft carrier anymore, there are obstacles all over the runway. The standard version of the simulator gives you access to planes of each class, so no style of aircraft is off-limits with the base game.
The Deluxe Edition offers up several new propeller planes. The Premium Deluxe Edition adds new vehicles for three of the four aircraft types. There are two parking spaces up from the start of the runway, number 1 is the bigger one, you will likely need to do a U turn if you start from there.
ATC has approach, ground and tower. There's no fancy nav stuff. The add-on detects when you are lined up for a catapult launch. Your launch speed is automatically calculated based on the physics of your aircraft, meaning the module works with every aircraft from a Cessna to fighter jets to 747s.
To launch the aircraft you simply set the parking brake, set full thrust, and release the parking brake to be launched off the deck. We set out to design a beautiful and functional aircraft carrier to be used with the vast number of military aircraft addons slated to launch for MSFS.
The module was written in such a way that any aircraft, stock or addon, can use the catapults and arrestor cables without any modification to the aircraft itself. The carriers work great in multiplayer. Due to the current limitations of the SDK provided by Microsoft, tailhooks are not yet supported in the game.
HDS Carrier Module currently assumes your tailhook is extended at all times (we will update this as the SDK improves). To trigger an arrestor cable landing, simply line up with the runway, and land within the arrestor cables.
HDS physics simulates the arrestor cable physics to bring the aircraft to a stop. There is no fuel and no pushback, it won't place items outside official terrain, so once you're parked up you might be there for good if you're on the large side.
If you start off in the parking spaces it is pointing in the right direction out towards the runway. It seems to run a bit choppily for me. I get this everywhere where there's an imported model in the open sea, even models of extreme simplicity and this one isn't too fancy either.
